New Evangelization and Skateboarding

God Uses Our Talents
"God has so many of ways of using people's talents to give Him glory," says Friar Gabriel about his skateboarding. He is one of two members of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate featured in a video by Spirit Juice films which captures the two friars showing off their skateboarding skills for the glory of God.

New Ardor, Methods and Expression
According to Ralph Martin, when Pope John Paul II "began to frequently call for a 'new evangelization. He made it clear that he wasn’t calling for a new gospel, but a new effort, characterized by new 'ardor, methods, and expression,' and directed in a new way, not only to those who have never heard the Gospel before — the traditional 'mission territories' — but now also to the lukewarm and de-Christianized traditionally Christian Western nations." Lay Apostolate
The Council of Vatican II explains that the lay apostolate stems from the general Christian vocation to spread the Gospel and is vital to the Church (Apostolicam Actuositatem, 1). The laity, defined by Canon Law to include the religious (Can. 207, 1), “share in the priestly, prophetic, and royal office of Christ” and therefore share in the mission to evangelize all the nations (AA, 2). They are essential precisely because they possess the ability to enter into all aspects of life and address the needs of a changing world. The Council encouraged the laity to use their particular gifts “to explain, defend, and properly apply Christian principles to the problems of our era in accordance with the mind of the Church” (AA, 6). The function of the apostolate is to influence the temporal order and cultural milieu into conformity with Christian ideals (AA, 7). Even skateboarding can be the vehicle to bring the good news of Christ to others.
